I was driving up to Dallas in the early evening (~5pm) and stopped by the Bell County Northbound Safety Rest Area (near Salado, TX), to see the native plants that TXDOT and partners put in.
Amongst the queens, there was one male monarch in great condition fluttering amongst the mistflower and other plants for a few minutes. Too fast for a picture, I think this was only a brief rest stop for him as he continues his journey south!
I stopped at the rest stop in Hillsboro too, but no monarchs to be seen there.
