I found this Caterpillar hanging from a poorly made silk button on a healthy common milkweed leaf in my garden. When I cut the leaf to place it in an observation container, the caterpiller dropped from the leaf to bottom of the container. I am not a butterfly expert but believe that it is a Monarch caterpillar that did not properly transform into the chrysalis stage. Diseased?
Many Monarchs have gone through all life stages without any "seen" challenges. Weather wise, it has been unseasonably rainy with day & night temps just as crazy. High humidity on cool days & nights as well as warm humid days & nights.
