Sightings report image

Date: 09/30/2018

Number: 1

The number of sightings in the last few days have dropped off from earlier this week.

It’s safe to say by reviewing the fall peak migration reports the bulk of this years butterflies have made it into OK and TX.

This years observations from here in Kansas:

- Healthy and Larger Monarchs
- Population seem elevated compared to 2018
- Drought in MO and KS may had little impact as food and water sources were abundant in IA and MN
- The Midwest Flight Path seemed wider this year with many reports from western KS and eastern CO

I took this pic around noon today. This monarch was feeding on the butterfly bush which by far was the favorite food source again this year.

It’s shows the long wing span which is impressive.

This may be my last report for 2018 as it appears our migration has now passed. It was another fun year and I can’t wait until the spring.of 2019.

Thanks to the organizers of Journey North for giving all of us the platform to post our observations.
