Hummingbird Sighting (Adult Male)
Sightings report image

Date: 10/04/2018

Number: 5

Still seeing male Ruby throats, bathing first at sun up in leaves of trees. It has been a very warm wet October with 90% humidity wise. Each one has its spot or twig in different trees. If one ventures within a 6 foot range of another all start chasing each other. This will make 5th set of males to stop in since July.
One looks different and claims the Holy tree where Rufous over winter in. From what I see using field glasses when this particular sub adult male perches so early it is not to determine exactky what species. There is a different color of feathers coming in on stomach. A lot of brown.
We have 6 feeders spread out still and they are all used during the day to refuel chasing events.
My daughter in Pearland,Texas still has another set of 4 males. A banner year of male Ruby throat migration south for both of us this late. Where are the females?? So far only 2 briefly tried to refuel at feeders.

Male Ruby throat in photo has the most mature throat development of red compared to others.
