Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/04/2018

Number: 5

We put our yard on an over-the-top hummingbird welcome-mat this week with huge, I mean H U G E shiny red ribbons screaming “pick me!” near every feeder, fresh nectar every two days, and an extra dose of smelly fish fertilizer to keep the cigar plants loaded with masses of flowering trumpets. Among the feeders, the hot pink allure of bougainvilleas, and a dazzling red-orange-flowering milkweed plant, I was smugly congratulating myself as I replaced a fresh feeder which had hummers feeding on it before I hung it on its hook when I realized, they probably chose this south Louisiana yard for all of its many, bazillion mosquitoes! Haha! Lucky me.
