We have a sub adult Rufous!
I was wondering what the spotted stomach little one was in our Holly tree in back.I knew it couldn't be a Ruby throat bc they sit on wires near. It finally spread its tail at 7 a.m. in tree so I could see the orange full tail feathers. It has been here more than a week as I relayed in adult male report on 10/4/18.
Sub adult Rufous are hard to determine only 3-4 months old.
There is another sub adult male Rufous in the Woodlands subdivision area as our Houston naturalist, columnist Gary Clark wrote about in today's Houston Chronicle at his house.
We haven't had Rufous come this early for 2 years previous.
Pic added shows home gurading a feeder and he did spread his orange tail again for me.
