We have had two days of warm weather (highs of 27C).
I first noticed a Red Admiral butterfly on the front yard butterfly bush (first sighting this season), and then shortly after a Monarch at around 2:30PM. The latter was nectaring continuously until around 5PM. At one point, both Red Admiral and Monarch were on the bush. Later a second Monarch came, first to a nearby Bugbane in flower, and some French Marigolds (first time I had seen Monarchs on them. Then both Monarchs were nectaring on the butterly bush for about an hour. Then they had a brief aerial dance/encounter, and only one Monarch returned to the butterfly bush.
A cold front moved in in the afternoon, the wind shifted to ENE.
These were the first Monarch sightings at this location since Sept. 18.
