Monarch Adult Sighted

There are almost 800 trees down in Asheboro, and the strongest wind we’ve seen in our 25 years here. Only a block and a half, down the hill from us, two streets at a three street intersection were blocked by downed power lines, transformers, and a giant tree on each street.

The next morning at 67 degrees, I saw two Monarchs come up the road and turn into our garden. Also in the garden were a gulf fritillary, two American ladies, and the regular bejillion skippers.

I got to thinking - when Monarchs roost overnight, they orient themselves to the east side of the tree tops to benefit from the warmth of the morning sun. (I’ve seen it here in our own garden). Can they also orient themselves on the ’safe’ side of trees during tropical storm winds. Just wondering. Any thoughts?
