Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers
Sightings report image

Date: 10/13/2018

Number: 5

Still had 2 feeders out and in the last 3 days, the activity, while much lower than earlier, has suddenly picked up. I know that at least one is female who looks fuzzy and fat, but probably puffed up. She lingers quite a long time at a feeder. Yesterday, Oct. 15, 2018 I was managing milkweed which is next to a feeder and a hummer landed at this feeder which was about 18 in. away from me. I remained very still while she drank. She stayed there for at least a minute until another hummer chased her away. On Oct 13 and 14, hummers showed up but nectared at both porterweed and milkweed, which I didn't know they used. Cold front came through Oct. 15th with temps in the 60's, so I guess these were the stragglers that were encouraged on from areas north.
