I was back in the Ledbetter Road tract in the NC Sandhills Game Lands from 11:30 until 3:30 pm on 10/19. The weather was perfect with bright sunny skies. It was about 60 degrees at 11:30 and warmed to the mid-70’s by mid-afternoon. The Carphephorus bloom in this tract was perfect, just beginning to peak, I suspect due to the later burn in this area. Common Buckeyes were very active but my impression was many of the Monarchs I had seen on 10/17 had moved on. I made a brief late day stop at Gibson Mill Road where the Carphephorus is now well past prime.
