Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/19/2018

Number: 11

Altus and I went on safari across the Lavaca Bay Causeway at 5:35
today to see if things had picked up. Has been gray and damp all
day with scattered showers, temp was 78 dF, bay calm, slight ripple
from the north, more rain, possibly much more along the coast when
this next front moves thru this weekend.

We counted 11 monarchs nectaring on goldenrod on the peninsula across
the causeqy and one trying to find a place to roost for the night in
a sticker bush plus two queens. All of the monarchs that I could put
the binocs on (and that was most) were females. The goldenrod and
sunflowers looked droopy after being out in all the light rain and
drizzle, but the monarchs were filling up.
