Altus and I made another quick trip across the bay to the
peninsula on the north end of the Lavaca Bay Causeway and
she slowly drove along the two mile long beach roads. We
went across at 3:30 today, 73 dF, wind NNE 15 mph with gusts
to 20, partly cloudy and getting darker in the west and east.
Our count today was sixty-four monarchs, nectaring on goldenrod
and sunflowers plus a few attempting to roost on both the thorn
bush and false willow. We saw a couple acting like they were
wanting to find a place to hang out much farther up the peninsula.
We did see six monarchs that had formed a loose roost on lee side
of good sized wild will. We thought it was early in the day but
they had probably seen the weather for the evening also.
