In a 1 hour period on October 16 I saw 12 monarchs flying southwest against a strong headwind along Lake Erie's north shore at Clearville Park. This is always a sad time of year to see these beautiful butterflies struggling against the elements, knowing that approaching weather conditions will freeze them out. The first 10 days of October was warm and sunny but the last 2 weeks of October is 10-15 degrees below normal with nectar plants now non-existent.
