Symbolic Monarchs (Sent)
Sightings report image

Date: 10/12/2018

Number: 1

Our Normandy Nature Neighbors Club second graders were excited to make symbolic butterflies and learn all about the monarchs. Mrs. Holland created the large one to thank Estela Romero, who introduced her to the places and the people where the monarchs overwinter, and to show our friendship with Mexico, thanks to Journey North, Estela, and the amazing monarchs we share! The left side shows a roost in the trees behind our school in early September and our club tagging a monarch to release. On the right are pictures Mrs. Holland took at El Rosario sanctuary, and in the middle is Estela's faithful white VW that delivers the butterflies to Mexican students. Mrs. Holland thankful to accompany her on a delivery last year and see the beautiful town of Angangueo! The other photo shows a tagged butterfly and the last caterpillar of the year that eventually became a female butterfly, tagged as YET 428 and released by on Oct. 30. Greetings to all our monarch amigos from Canada to Mexico, from the students in Bay Village, OH!
