Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 11/07/2018

Number: 46

It was 70F and sunny when I spotted a Monarch flying near the Asheville, NC airport. As I continued my drive along Highway 280 to Brevard, I saw 3 more Monarchs heading south. Hoping for the best, I headed up to Cherry Cove overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway mile marker 415.7 elevation 4327 feet temp 59F 2mph wind from the east. Within 1 minute of parking I saw the first Monarch gliding over the trees, across the parkway road and over the other side of the Mountain. Over the next 90 minutes I counted 46 Monarchs on the move ahead of the cold front that was predicted in the next 2 days.
