We were challenged today with sustained fierce winds from the north at 20 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. The ocean was turbulent and covered with whitecaps. We did see 3 southbound gray whales. One whale gracefully announced his or her presence with a half breach to catch our attention. This was very much appreciated since the blows were being blown down very quickly by the strong wind.
