Two small monarch pupae were attached to the large pot where the milkweed plants are growing. An adult was seen flying around the milkweed a few weeks earlier. It has been a cool to cold winter. These are abnormally smaller pupae than we usually see in warmer months. It is unlikely they will produce viable adults but they might. The milkweed which had quite a few leaves and was blooming is now stripped completely by the larvae. We can see monarchs almost any time of the year here.
