Hummingbird, Rufous (FIRST)
Sightings report image

Date: 02/23/2019

Number: 1

I’m on a trip in Palm Springs, CA and have been on the lookout for hummingbirds for 3 days. This is the first one I spotted, and it was perched on a crepe myrtle at the base of the mountains here near La Plaza street. There are non-stop bloomers everywhere...bougainvilleas, firecrackers, aloe veras, lantanas, but no blooming ocotillos yet.
I live in south Louisiana and hope to see returning ruby-throats in the first week of March. There, I’ve put out tufts of organic cotton for nest-building, blooming firespikes, bougainvilleas, and lantanas, and a nectar feeder outside this week. I feel like a child anticipating Christmas! Haha!
