I just incorrectly reported seeing thousands of monarch butterflies, but instead I've discovered they are actually Painted Ladies. Apparently very common, though certainly an unusual number this year. Billions have been reported making their way across southern California from northern Mexico.
Sorry for misreporting this species. We do have monarch butterflies here though and I have had some hatch from the milkweed plants that I grow for them.
