Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/09/2019

Number: 1

This afternoon I had just stepped out of our house, when a monarch flew past me and sailed upwards and over our roof. I hurried around the house hoping to see it on the other side, but with no luck. It had been traveling in a fast, northerly direction when I so briefly encountered it.

Currently, our native milkweed (Asclepias viridis) has not come up. There are nectar plants available, such as false garlic flowers (in abundance) and wild blackberry flowers (just starting to bloom) and flowering spring trees like our pear tree (now blooming).

Wonderful to see a beautiful monarch ~ even if fleeting! Hoping our milkweed starts to sprout soon.
