Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 03/15/2019

Number: 1

Last night and this morning I saw the radar at Binghamton NY light up with the bird migration pattern. Binghamton is 90 miles to the southwest of me. I could hear what I believe was a lot of geese flying overhead at midnight. I do occasionally hear birds flying overhead late at night, especially killdeer. There are a lot of sights and news outlets talking about how weather radar picks up bird migrations. Here is one of them. https://www.audubon.org/news/how-use-radar-track-birds
This was happening ahead of the storm front moving in. Albany was showing activity along the Taconics.

I got up this morning and my yard was full of grackles for the first time. Where there is grackles there are other black birds. I did a survey of the rural areas around Dolgeville. Sure enough the redwings are everywhere. They are even in Dolgeville itself around the little league ball park. They are all singing. The village is still heavily covered in snow. I also found multiple robin flocks.
