Last evening a female was in my front yard, as my resident male and the male across the street were out foraging. She began to move into the inter-boundary zone in the street when my robin chased her back into my driveway.
He then chased the other male back into his own territory, came back and took a bath in a puddle, followed by meeting her briefly in my lilac bush.
This morning at 6.21, calls began, and at 6.24 vigorous and sustained true song began -- Still ongoing 10 minutes later. This has a volume and clarity different from the shorter bouts this last several days.
Safe to say that nesting season is underway--at least at my house!
