Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/24/2019

Number: 1

This sighting was of a female Monarch that was laying eggs on all
the milkweed In our yard . We had just planted some 11 fledgling plants that we placed all over the yard. This Monarch did not light on any other plant besides the milkweed & obviously curved her body so as to lay the eggs on the under side of the leaf. I filmed a 2 and a half video of this Monarch diving down on each milkweed at a rapid pace, which is a diostory if they are lazily perusing the butterfly bushes & other flowers to obtain nectar. At one point the Monarch almost accidentally flew into an open door in our house, because she was so driven to get the eggs delivered! The entire episode lasted about 15 minutes. We will carefully examine the milkweed leaves for the eggs & will reconnoiter the area for more milkweed since it is early here in the Dallas area to have full grown milkweed.
