Tulips BLOOMED
Sightings report image

Date: 03/23/2019

Number: 1

Welcome to our 21st year of blooming Red Emperor Tulips. Virginia Living Museum volunteer reports the first Red Emperor tulips planted in the Children's Learning Garden last fall bloomed on this date, 1 day earlier than last year. March 23rd is also our calculated mean date for bloom from the previous 20 years of bloom data. Photograph was taken about 3:30 pm the day before. The alternation between warm then cold weather this March kept the stalks short and buds closed, until today. The Children's Learning Garden began with Journey North Red Emperor Tulips planted in 1998.
