Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/27/2019

Number: 1

It came flying in from the east at tree top level adjacent to Galisteo Creek at which point I lost sight of it in the top of cottonwoods. I observed it with 10x binoculars long enough to make a positive identification, but not long enough to obtain a photograph. Steve Cary told me that he believes this may be the first sighting of the species in the state.

Today the temperature reached 70 degrees F. for the first time here this season, although it was probably closer to 65 F. at the time of the observation.
