Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 03/27/2019

Number: 2

Wonderful monarchs were everywhere today! I was seeing them flying, nectaring, looking for milkweed, egg-laying, resting, sunbathing, and males chasing females. It was a sunny day with temperatures in the 60's and 70's, light breezes, and low humidity around 40%.

As I walked about observing monarchs throughout the day, I decided to take a peek more closely at some of the milkweed & found one milkweed with 2 little caterpillars! Well, I knew I needed to do a milkweed/egg/larva survey soon, as the newborns were starting to hatch.

This is a photo of one of the newborns munching on his/her egg capsule. A tiny new beginning!
