Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 03/30/2019

Number: 5

Today I had only a short while to observe monarchs and during that time it began to lightly rain, soon to get stronger as a cool front moved through. From 1:00 to 1:15pm I saw at least 5 monarchs in our yard and near pasture. It was 71 degrees F, cloudy, 80% humidity, with light wind from the west.

I watched as a beautiful female monarch fluttered in the near pasture looking for milkweed. She laid eggs on several different milkweed plants. As I followed her for a short while, I also saw a few other monarchs flying around and nectaring on yellow thistles.

This is a photo of her as she lays a second egg on this newly-emerged fresh milkweed.
