She laid 17 eggs on my milkweed. Unfortunately, my plant became overrun with tiny red spider mites and the baby caterpillars never seemed to start feeding once hatched. They all perished so I washed the plant thoroughly with mild soap to rid it of mites and the very fine almost invisible webs.
Now there are just two healthy eggs that were laid some time yesterday (4/5/19). I brought the milkweed inside to keep it safer from pests. My plant doesn’t seem very healthy (brown mottled leaves). She laid two eggs on the greenest, newest leaves. I think these guys will make it. I’ll be buying another milkweed because mine hasn’t had the chance to grow enough after cutting it back Nov. 1st to feed even two caterpillars. They’re little pigs!
