Pale and weathered; warm afternoon

I have been participating in butterfly surveys and counts since 2005. Although I realize that does not make me infallible, I feel quite certain of my identification. I regret I did not have a chance to get a photograph. This was by no means a fresh specimen. My first thought upon seeing how washed-out it looked is that it must have traveled quite a distance.
