While traveling south on Highway 87, past Lubbock, Texas and close to Lamesa, I observed flocks of Sandhill Cranes feeding in the fields. Along there cotton and winter wheat is grown, mostly.

I observed several different flocks of 10-20 cranes over a space of 30 miles.
