Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 04/05/2019

Number: 1

This a photo of one of the larvae that I mentioned in my 04/05/2019 Monarch Larva Sighted report. This 2nd instar is nibbling contentedly on a nutritious milkweed leaf.

In the milkweed survey done today, I found 110 larvae on 387 milkweed plants. There were 61 1st instars, 42 2nd instars, and 7 3rd instars. I am sure I missed some of them!

One thing I forgot to mention in my main survey report is that of the milkweed found with 0 eggs (218 total) ~ 48 of those had one or more larvae on them. One milkweed plant had seven larvae, ranging in size from 1st instar to 3rd instar.
