Clark Meyer, who has tracked ice-outs on Lake Francis since 1976, said the ice disappeared quickly last week.

"On Sunday morning it was solid ice and it just kept melting out further, and the wind came out of the west Monday and it was just gone."

The average ice-out date for area lakes is April 5. Last year, ice-out on most lakes didn't come until April 30."
