This past Saturday, April 13, my wife Karen saw 4 or 5 Red Admirals and 4 or 5 American Ladies, all basking in the sun at Alex Robertson Park along the Pickering waterfront .
The same day, I saw my first locally emerged butterfly of the year, a Cabbage White, at Etienne Brule Park along the lower Humber in the west end of Toronto. It was nectaring on a hillside covered in Scilla. I also saw an Eastern Comma at Magwood Park. Surprisingly, I saw no Mourning Cloaks where I would normally expect to see several this time of year.
