Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/20/2019

Number: 1

Completely amazed that I saw my first monarch of 2019 this afternoon! I was weeding my gardens and decided to check my milkweed garden for milkweed (I have been checking every few days) Much to my shock and amazement I saw a monarch flying low over the garden. She, I believe it was a female was fluttering around then flew on to my front yard then out of sight into a wooded area. I check the garden closely and found about a doz shoots of milkweed having pushed through the soil. The tallest ones were about 1 inch and shortest about 1/2 inch only! I checked my records from last yr and I saw that I recorded my first sighting in 2018 in late June! The weather here today is breezing, sunny and 73 degrees. I'm sure if this monarch was looking for milkweed to lay eggs on she will find it, since it will grow quickly now!
