A beautiful monarch flew across the parking lot toward the tree area.
I unfortunately do not have a photo because I was in my car when I saw it fly by. It was definitely not a red admiral - I actually haven’t seen them yet. It definitely had the monarch patterned wings.
Again, without a photo I cannot guarantee 100% it was a monarch. While I have not seen viceroys in my area previously, I suppose it is possible it could have been one...?
It was an extremely warm sunny day yesterday (~high 60s). I have just checked my garden in Portland CT (20 miles south of Farmington) and I do have milkweed coming up in the back garden. No eggs that I can see yet.
