Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 04/13/2019

Number: 2

I only saw two, but now know there were many more, all hatched close to this date, as I now have 12 caterpillars in the 5th instar. I picked up 2 asclepias linearis when I volunteered at the Pima County Resources Native Plant Nursery. They were not interested in it, when placed next to asclepias curassavica. I then bought, yesterday, 4/26/19, asclepias subulata and A. angustifolia, because the A. curassavica was almost defoliated by these hungry caterpillars. Today, they are finally going to the angustifolia and subulata, as all the cur. leaves are gone. They have been passing up the linearis, but now a couple are eating the flowers. I wish they would hurry up and pupate!
