During our vacation in Kauai, we spotted 3 different monarch butterflies in 3 different locations. Here is a photo of one that was flying around this specific spot on the beach. It kept landing a while on the sand then would fly in large circles over the area only to come back. It did this several times while we were there (about an hour). It seemed interested in this shady area near the parking lot where there were more pebbles and wood chips in the sand. It was not faded or tattered.
