The first butterfly we have seen was a lone female who appeared in good shape, and arrived around noon, 5/16/19, flying all around the perennial butterfly garden focusing on the common milkweed plants. She hesitated on a few of the dozens of plants that are now several feet tall with many buds, but no open flowers yet. Later I was able to locate several eggs she laid underneath the leaves! I am hopeful there will be many more to come. There is alot of wild common milkweed emerging in our pastures in addition to those I propagated several years ago into a garden beside our home on the Northeastern side. I would love to share plants now emerging in the fields which are more successfully transplanted while they are under a foot tall(12")!
