Signs of Spring

Date: 05/18/2019

Number: 1

Overcast, rainy, 49 degrees, winds 9 mph. There’s a large bumblebee, meticulously working in the barberry shrubs on the south side of the house. I planted this hedge specifically for “The Bumbles” as a source for early, spring, nectar. This hedge is “prickly” one needs to wear leather gloves and trim it back every year so it doesn’t become so tall and wide that it wears out its welcome :) It’s a small inconvenience, and a worthy project, as this hedge provides prolific flowers, nectar, shelter and protection for the Bumbles every spring—before other nectar sources are available.
