Gray Whale Sighted

Date: 05/20/2019

Number: 6

Gray whales, known and unknown, are still showing up through out the inland waters. Many of the N Puget Sound grays are still around, often gathering in groups of 6, their exhalations illuminated by the early morning rising sun. About now, mid May is typically when they begin their exit from these inland waters and head on out in the Pacific. Two were spotted exiting Admiralty Inlet one evening, but were too distant for IDs to confirm if we had outbound Sounders or some of the new whales. It will be interesting to see when the Sounders start leaving, how many more will come in, and if any of them will stay over year round again.
