Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 05/19/2019

Number: 1

I found several newly hatched tiny cats in my garden in North Central Texas Saturday morning, on Green Milkweed, Asclepias viridis. We had strong storms move through with high winds and heavy rains a few hours later. Once storms had passed, i checked and couldn't find the cats, but today, I was able to locate three again.

Apparently, they did okay riding out the storm outside. The plants look a little windblown, but the cats are munching away.

Here in the yard, they can choose between the A. viridis and my other milkweeds: texana, linearis, verticillata, tuberosa, engelmanniana, obovata, and asperula. All the cats I found were on viridis.
