On May 14th I noticed the first fresh milkweed buds poking above the soil. Two days prior, I had cut back the old, winter-dried milkweed stalks and raked away the layer of leaves that had provided insulation from the winter’s cold. All plants and trees seem to be about two weeks behind schedule. It’s been a very cold spring.
