Signs of Spring

Date: 05/29/2019

Number: 1

Temperatures are averaging 10:degrees less than normal in Michigan. Which means our spring has been colder and wetter than normal. Our birds are nesting: Rose Breasted Grosbeaks, Eastern Phoebes, Tit Mice, Chick-a-dees, Cardinals, Orioles, Woodpeckers, Blue Jays—they need, enjoy, and sometimes request or demand :) a little more assistance. We’ve been maintaining heated bird baths, and providing generous amounts of peanut splits, Black sunflower seeds, oranges, suet and live meal worms. At first my Phoebes, Tit Mice and Chick-a-dees weren’t quite sure about the live meal worms, and then it was an “Ah ha” moment :) Live meal worms help with hawking, bug patrolling and feeding youngster in nests. Now, live meal worms are relished, quickly distributed to small, baby, birds in nests.
