Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/31/2019

Number: 1

was birding at the Loveridge Bridge South Boat Ramp on the Snake River, Owyhee Co. ID.
Monarch passed me and last seen flying toward the north crossing the river into Elmore Co.. able to get comfortable id but bug was over water and moving fast before able to get photo.

I looked closely at the photos you provided here in your email. I also went thru my own library of butterfly books and I do feel certain of my call. Definitely not a Painted Lady, we are having a small flood of those migrating thru SW ID right now, first time in many years, plus I was seeing several PL's in the area at the time of my Monarch so it really stood out as different, attracting my attention. In fact, I had only those two species about me at the time.

Weather conditions were mid-A.M., warm, with a bright, lightly-hazy sunshine, slight cool breeze out of the West.
Earlier this day while at another place I had several more Monarch sightings that I will be sending on to you all shortly. These other sightings confirmed my previous call as I was able to get better looks though still unable to get any kind of good photo.
