Wild Things have been busy in the habitat today, 60 degrees with sunshine and winds 15mph. The Orioles no longer need my assistance, the thicket by the north west ridge and north creek has become a glorious mass of flowers / nectar via wild cherry trees, wild honeysuckle, and wild strawberries: all in bloom. The birdsong and activity in the thicket is amazing. A bald eagle flew overhead this afternoon. A flock of turkey hens, (group of 7) are visiting the area around the house, doing "bug patrol." The Eastern Phoebe's are enjoying new 8 foot poles that I placed on high spots for "easier hawking" :) The pilated woodpecker pair are spending more time on the east side of the house, enjoying suet. With their enthuastic eating, they scatter suet on the ground--which is immediately appreciated and consumed by 8 members of a morning dove family. Hummingbirds, squirrels, red breasted grosbeaks, crows, blue jays, Robbins and cardinals are all participating in creating movement and music.Picture: If you look at the top of the suet feeder on the left you will see the red, crest of the pilated woodpecker's head.
