I was here at Deer Flat NWR looking for a reported Indigo Bunting and a Northern Parula being seen out along what is called the Kingfisher Trail. Found the Parula, no bunting.
During the course of my walk to and from the bird sightings area I noted several Monarchs. All were flying, none seen feeding on flowers or perching.
All were in mint condition. None seemed to be going in any particular direction.
Weather: warm, calm, bright sunshine.
Only other butterflies in the area were a few scattered Painted Lady's.
