The Eastern Phoebe chicks, who have been in a nest, made of moss, mud, and grass, above the light on our front porch :) were coached and encouraged, by mom and dad to leave the nest today.
According to the Birds of Michigan Field Guide, Phoebe’s have 2 broods per year, 4-5 eggs, the female incubates 15-16 days, and mom and dad feed the young during fledging, approximately 15-16 days.
Phoebe’s eat insects. While they’ve been fledging, I’ve been using a post hole digger and putting 8 foot stakes in the ground, so the family with have additional perches for their “hawking activities.” We always enjoy and welcome phoebe flycatchers.
