Several yellow swallowtails visiting flowers today, and there was a new Monarch drying wings on a common milkweed plant in the west pasture.

The pasture is filled with blossums,flowers, grasses: white clover, red clover, alfalfa, wild purple pea, dasies. Honeysuckle is blooming, cherry trees are in blossum, wild penstemon is in bloom beside the trails. Wild strawberries cover the ground, along the north west ridge; and wild berries line the ditch banks. Common milk weed corridors are forming big, buds.

Picture: Golden Alexander (Zizia aurea) planted for swallowtail caterpillars. Golden Alexander is easily grown in partial shade and will self-sow / spread. It us one of 26 native plants recommended by MSU that provides flowers throughout the growing season and is highly attractive to beneficial insects.
