There are 15 foot wide swaths (paths) mowed between the ditch banks and pasture where my dog and I walk.

To keep my dog safe from skunks, porcupines, and occassional bear, she wears a harness and leash. A DNR officer said a bear can run 35 mph, for hours. Dogs have died, from exhaustion; chasing bear.

Our paths keep us away from mosquitos, ticks, and other insects that bite / live in the pasture's plants

The paths also provide space when 15 to 25 turkey chicks literally explode and sail into the air from their hiding places in the pasture's grass! This event occurs often during June / July and is unexpectedly startling for both a dog, and her mom:)

Picture shows a gentle, wild rabbit, quietly, resting and enjoying the path; which is also used by deer, birds, raccoons, squirrels, fox, coyotes.

About a month ago a licensed, rehab specialist released 7 rabbits she rescued and successfully raised into the deep, thick, cover and thickets in this area. The extensive cover prvoides important protection from native predators. The rabbits are thriving, we see them often.

Yesterday there were 2 swallowtails in the sandy trail (north of this path) feasting on coyote scat.

There's a very diverse, interconnected, community in the Wintergreen Forest :)
