Indian Hemp, Apocynum cannabinum from the Dogbane family.
Perennial,native--close relative of common milkweed. According to Wildflowers of Michigan Field Guide, insects avoid this plant because of it's poisonous juice.
Nonetheless, deer often nibble the tips and flowers.
Orioles sometimes use the stems of old plants to construct nests.
